
South East England is a wealthy region but economic success is not shared by everyone. The region contains areas of severe poverty.
The region is home to eight million people, more than the populations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland combined.
The region has the highest ecological footprint and is responsible for the most carbon dioxide emissions of the English regions. It is the region that has most to gain from reducing consumption of natural resources.

People in the South East travel further than those in any other region - 13,483 km per person per year. 85% of these journeys are by car.
