Countryside

Downland countryside near Lewes, East Sussex

The South East has many areas of high quality countryside with 35% of the region having national designations, higher than any other region. But these areas are under severe pressure from development.

As well as pushing for strong regional policies to protect and improve the countryside, we have joined other groups in the South Downs Campaign to promote a strong new National Park for the South Downs

The new National Park must cover the whole of the existing South Downs and have the best possible protection.

The government is expected to make a decision on the National Park in summer 2009.

Take Action

The South Downs Campaign is asking people to send a picture postcard to the Secretary of State urging that all the areas shown are included in the National Park.

Contact the South Downs Campaign if you want a card to send off.
