Clearing the air over London25 May 2010
Our legal team have been working on behalf of Campaign for Clean Air in London (CCAL) to demand the release of information on London's air quailty levels from the Government.
On 11 May 2010, we won the first stage of this case.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) had brought the case to the Information Tribunal to stop the information from being released.
But the case was cut short as the Information Tribunal refused to accept the Government's newly submitted arguments.
After the ruling the Government's barrister told the tribunal that DEFRA does not have much of a case left and have appealed the ruling.
The information provided could help CCAL determine whether the Government has acted responsibly in their efforts to reach European air quality standards.
Separately, the Government was denied a time extension by the European Commission for it to reach its legal air quality requirements.
