Aviation in the West Midlands 19 April 2010
The Government's 2003 Aviation White paper proposes an expansion of Birmingham International Airport. This could lead to:
- Noise pollution
81,000 people could be affected by noise pollution by 2030. - Threats to natural environments
Expansion would directly endanger ancient woodland such as Barber's Coppice and add to climate change.
The aviation industry enjoys massive government support yet its claimed economic benefits are questionable.
Our research (PDF†) shows that 4 times as much money leaves the region as enters it through air travel.
