Friday Green Fair23 June 2011
Friday at conference this year will have a festival/fete atmosphere with a Green Fair.
Local Group members and activists can get involved with the fair and fundraise for either your local group or another cause of your choice.
We're building a beautiful outdoor yurt area to host the fair. There'll be a bicycle powered smoothie maker, a 40th anniversary craft stall (recycling old campaign materials) and displays of Friends of the Earth memorabilia.
These are the 4 main areas (other suggestions are welcome):
Friday Afternoon Cake Stall
From 2 pm till 7pm you'll be able to sell cakes to your colleagues. It'll be a great chance for everyone to catch up with a good cup of tea.
Prices can be set at any amount and we encourage members to raise money for their local group. If you're planning to bring cakes, please bring a float. If you're just going to buy cakes, please bring plenty of change!
Jams, Chutneys and Relishes
Also, a stall will be open throughout the weekend for you to sell your home made preserves.
The stall will operate an honesty box system and won't be staffed.
Delegates will be able to drop the advertised amount into the honesty box and take home something handmade, (hopefully) home grown and organic from someone else in the Friends of the Earth family.
If you're planning on bringing chutney's, jams or relishes please bring a small but attractive display box that shows your prices and has room for a small honesty box.
Remember that you can re-stock your box when it runs out and you'll be sharing the stall with many others so please keep things as compact as you can.
Vegetable Growing Competition
For the more green fingered activists there'll be a vegetable growing competition with these categories:
- Weirdest shape (with caption)
- Loveliest vegetable
- Biggest vegetable
Exceptional fruit will also be accepted. Prizes will be awarded for the winners so get growing.
Campaign Memory Lane
We already have some great contributions including an Earth Matters catalogue from the 1980s, and a selection of badges that date back some 30 years.
If you have any interesting memorabilia you'd like to share with your colleagues then please get in touch (items of value can be stored securely on request). Again, we'll try and find some prizes for the quirkiest pieces.
