Jurassic Coast trek

Location: Dorset and Devon

Duration: 3 days, 2 nights

Difficulty: Moderate

Registration fee: £75

Fundraising target: £440

The Jurassic Coast is England's first Natural World Heritage Site and the most geologically diverse coastline in the world.

The exposed cliff sections allow you to look back through 185 million years of time. The area is a fossil-hunter's paradise. With a more recent history of shipwrecks and smuggling, this is a fascinating and beautiful stretch of coastline.

From the renowned natural stone archway of Durdle Door to the beautiful circular Lulworth Cove, the spectacular scenery provides the perfect backdrop to this trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Meet at our Kimmeridge campsite to get to know the rest of the group over dinner and an evening briefing. There'll be transport to pick you up from Wareham railway station if required.

Day 2: Durlston Head - Kimmeridge

After a good breakfast we'll transfer to our starting point, Durlston Head Country Park, on the cliffs above Swanage. Look for dolphins around the headland here, especially in early summer.

On the route we'll pass medieval farming terraces and St Alban's Head Norman chapel. We'll also see the Globe, an enormous limestone sphere measuring 3m in diameter and engraved with an 1880's world map.

The route will then dip down to small bays and ledges, before climbing again to get fantastic cliff top views of the area.

We'll then pass the turquoise-blue Chapman's Pool, before our evening destination comes into view - the beautiful Kimmeridge Bay.

Day 3: Kimmeridge - Durdle Door

Back on the coastal path, we'll begin by passing Lulworth Ranges; an area of abundant flora and fauna.

Highlights of the trek include the remarkable views of Worbarrow Bay, the famous Lulworth Cove, and the amazing twisted rock layers and of the region.

Our final finish point is Durdle Door- a rock arch surrounded by remarkably clear water.
