What's on the programme1 May 2013
The programme for Basecamp will offer a great range of activities to inspire and intrigue you.
Everyone coming to Basecamp will be going on a journey. Choosing your route to the heart of the Peak District is just the beginning. The weekend is all about making choices and creating your own experience.
The full Basecamp programme is now available.
To get the most out the weekend, we recommend you come along for all of it. We'll kick off the sessions early afternoon on Friday and end mid-afternoon on Sunday. However, we suggest you get to Hartington on Friday morning to give you time to settle in, explore the area, and put up your tent if you're camping.
We hope to be inspired by the beautiful surroundings and we'll be running guided walks in Dovedale and planting a wildflower meadow at the YHA. There will activities to get the creativity flowing, from sketching to poetry and bee-friendly crafts.
Our opening World Cafe will celebrate news from local to international grassroots action. And we'll be welcoming a number of speakers to bring new perspectives.
Elias Diaz Pena from Friends of the Earth Paraguay will be talking about the challenges of protecting the environment in his home country. And George Monbiot is joining us to suggest how we could restore damaged ecosystems and how this might enrich our lives.
You'll also find some of the elements that have always been a big draw at our previous conferences:
- Earthmovers awards - where we recognise the sucesses of local campaigners
- Motions debate - where we discuss campaigns proposed by the network
- Discussions on our current major campaigns on Bees, Make it Better and Clean British Energy
- Workshops and skillshares.
But your input and ideas will be as important as any of our speakers and structured sessions.
Throughout the weekend there will be space and time for you to run your own sessions on things you're keen to discuss.
You'll have the chance to shape Friends of the Earth's next big campaign, and help identify the most powerful campaign ideas.
You'll be able to talk to Board members on progress since last year's Conference and learn more about our political strategy.
There will be sessions exploring our wider programme work. Issues such as fracking, sustainable diets, landgrabbing, and campaigning on the green economy will be up up for discussion.
And finally there's the all-important down time. We hope you'll take time out to explore, stargaze, go on a bat walk or sit and reflect round the bonfire.
We hope you can join us. You can book your place here.
