Free event - Resisting Resource Wars20 October 2011
How can we protect global resources and tackle overconsumption?
1 cup of coffee uses over 140 litres of water to be made!
The rich world consumes ten times more of the worlds' resources than those in the poorest countries, and yet the standard of living for most people hasn't increased in decades.
Our overconsumption has devastating effects on the countries whose land, water, and materials are used to feed this demand.
From the vast water and pesticide use caused by cotton growing in Togo, to the devastation of forests caused by dam building and mining in Brazil, our over-consumption is driving human and environmental devastation - not benefiting the producers and not benefiting the consumers.
There is a fight back!
Come hear from campaigners at the forefront of tackling this massive problem.
Discuss the tactics and strategies that communities are using to defend their resources, as well as the actions we can take to bring justice back to consumption.
