The South Downs became a National Park in 2010, though this area of natural beauty has been a favourite with walkers for years.
From rolling hills to high ridges, the soft beauty of the Downs is dotted with long barrows and ancient earthworks. Magnificent views of the sea give this National Park a stunning backdrop and often provides a much appreciated breeze on the climbs and descents of this trek.
You'll celebrate finishing on the white cliffs of Seven Sisters, overlooking Beachy Head's dramatic headland.

Itinerary
Starting in the market town of Lewes, we'll set off early.
Passing the Norman castle we'll head southwest towards the downs. It's not long before we're climbing uphill, with some steep sections in the first few miles. Walking along a ridge, there'll be wonderful views inland towards the downs and south towards the coast.
Descending to pass the village of Rodmell and cross the River Ouse, it's won't be long before you're climbing again. Steep at first, the gradient becomes more gradual towards Beddingham Hill.
The landscape drops away quickly as we head inland, with views of farms and villages as we reach the halfway mark and our highest point - Firle Beacon. It's then downhill through the ancient Long Burgh barrow to the small and pretty village of Alfriston.
Passing the village, we'll cross the Cuckmere River, the first flat section of the challenge. Then on to Cuckmere Heven, with its backdrop of white chalk cliffs it's a location often used in films.
Then the homestretch. We'll take the South Downs Way towards Seven Sisters, covering one of the most spectacular sections of the trek. The final push is a challenging one, with steep climbs and descents. Past the Belle Tout lighthouse, and one last climb to the top of Beachy Head.
