Competition
Congratulations to Rebecca Goodson, a Young Leader with 1st Machen Brownies and Charis Gates and Georgina Miles of 1st Streatham Hill Guides for their winning entries.
Charis, aged ten, joined Friends of the Earth at The Wave, the biggest ever march on climate change, which took place as world leaders gathered in Copenhagen for important international climate talks.
Charis spoke on stage at the opening rally, then, along with 50,000 people, marched with to the Houses of Parliament. The grand finale saw everyone waving blue painted or gloved hands in the air.
Charis said: “Lots of people came to The Wave because they think climate change is important – we want a good result in Copenhagen.”
Charis made a video diary about the day. In it she interviews Friends of the Earth’s Executive Director Andy Atkins, who thanked her for all the work she’s done in getting people on board with climate change.Charis won the chance to attend the rally with Friends of the Earth because of her obvious desire to do what she can to help stop climate change. Young people like our competition winners are truly inspiring – now we need the Government to demonstrate the same level of commitment to a strong and fair deal to tackle global warming.
