Clean British Energy flows into my flat and lights up my life
After the lightbulb moment of my last blog I took a deep breath and braced myself to deal with the expected admin of switching energy supplier.
I'm not a man who enjoys form filling. I can't stand rooting around in my email inbox for the last vital snippet of information required to do something as simple as book the dentist or hire a suit online. Sometimes the hassle puts me off so I take the easier option. For every embarrassing wedding with toothache there's the satisfaction of knowing that I've saved myself hours of frustration.
Thankfully this energy supplier switching business was remarkably straightforward. I simply went to the websites of Friends of the Earth's two partners on the Clean British Energy campaign - Ecotricity and Good Energy - made my choice and filled in the details. There was a few days' wait while they did some admin on my behalf (phew) and then I was connected.
As well as the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from knowing my energy is now clean and green I've taken my place in the ranks of some of the Greatest Britons. Churchill, Brunel, Darwin; today they've all been presented with honorary Clean British Energy 'CBEs'.
I emailed the Energy Secretary a month or so back and have now taken practical action by switching supplier. This qualifies me for my own 'CBE', and the team here have been working on something special to reward those who achieve this honour.
Numbers speak louder than words. Lots of people emailing and switching to clean British energy will add weight to our campaign to persuade David Cameron to do the same for the whole country.
The majority of people want to see more clean British energy. It's simple to do from the webpage and Good Energy and Ecotricity have people on hand to help. In my experience it's easier, less painful and more rewarding than booking a trip to the dentist. So what's stopping you?
