Supporter of the week: Ali Abbas
To celebrate Friends of the Earth's 40th anniversary, I've been talking to some of the supporters who've made it all possible. Ali Abbas (right) is a business analyst who moonlights as a campaigner for Friends of the Earth.
"Being a business analyst for a software company is very different from what I do for Friends of the Earth - but I like the contrast.
"It's always a dilemma whether to stick with the day job or try to find paid work in the environmental field.
I like the flexibility of being a volunteer
"I don't want to leave Manchester - most NGO jobs are in London.
"We have about 150 members in Manchester, mostly at the younger end - it's fun.
"We've had gigs, stalls at festivals, fundraising dinners."

Next week: Margaret and Nigel Woodward. To see all the supporters I've interviewed, visit our 40th anniversary gallery.
