Pianos, polar bears and Tim Minchin
Excited excited excited. That's the feeling from the Laugh or the Polar Bear Gets It team as today we're announcing the addition of the irrepressible Aussie comedy musician Tim Minchin to our line-up.
I saw Tim live back in 2007. I saw an ad in the Guardian for his 'So F**king Rock' tour which, conveniently, happened to be touring in London around the time of my birthday. I admit also to being rather drawn in by his picture - crazy kohl-lined eyes and a kind of Russell Brand feel about his hair. So with no expectations I dragged my friends to the Beck Theatre in Hayes to see him.
What a show. We were treated to many of Tims comedy anthem repertoire that have now gone on to become classics, including Inflatable You, You Grew On Me, Canvas Bags - a great one for us greenies - and of course the show's title song, So F**king Rock.
Picking a favourite is a nigh-on impossible task, but if you don't know much about Tim then If You Really Loved Me is a great place to start. For a taste of his style away from the piano, you can't fail to be moved by the beautiful words in this poem...
I can't wait to see Tim strutting his stuff again for Laugh or the Polar Bear Gets It. All we've got to do now is source Tim a big glitzy piano... any offers?
