Yorkshire Dales - win the perfect weekend retreat

The Yorkshire Dales are one of the most famous national parks in the UK, but dare I admit it, I've never been.

A couple of weeks ago Friends of the Earth launched a competition where sign-ups to our Big Green Bike Ride cycle challenge can be in with a chance of winning a retreat in the Dales.

The competition inspired me to find out more about this part of the world. A bit of googling later and I'm desperate to visit - the beautiful scenery, the dramatic landscape, the sheer scale.

Caving particularly inspired me, as did the scores of unusual wildlife. I'm tempted by it all - exploring on foot, on a bike, on horseback.

If you're a fan of the Dales, or like me, inspired to visit for the first time, why not enter our holiday competition

Register for the Big Green Bike Ride before 31 December 2011 to be in with a chance.

The London to Edinburgh challenge is 500 miles, but you don't have to do it all. Tackle an 80 mile leg by joining for a single day of the route. London to Cambridge, Grantham to Beverley, Alnwick to Edinburgh - there's lots to choose from.

If you're the lucky winner you'll be able to take five friends to explore this stunning landscape. The sustainably built lodge has vast panoramic views, so you'll also be in the perfect position to wildlife spot.

The prize has been kindly donated by Natural Retreats, which specialises in luxury and unique self-catering properties. They focus on beautiful locations and unusual accommodation.

The lodge looks amazing, and with a floor to ceiling glass front, you'll be entirely immersed in the Dales.
