About us

When and where?

We usually meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month, alternating between the Sebright Arms, Alston Road, High Barnet EN5 4ET, the Fishmongers' Arms, Winchmore Hill Road,Southgate N14 6AD and our membership secretary, Donald Lyven's flat in Finchley Central 32 Glenhill Close, off Lichfield Grove, about 5 minutes from Finchley Central Station (to the South).

However we have to cover a very large area and we are trying to be fair to all actual and potential members.

Our next meeting will therefore be on Wednesday, 16th of November, at the Sebright Arms, Alston Road, high Barnet EN5 4ET. We meet at 7:30 for a quick chat, and start the meeting at 8pm.

About this group

This group was launched in August 2006 and covers Barnet and Enfield. This is a very large area and therefore locations of campaigning often reflect to some degree where members live. New members are welcome.

If you're interested, please get in touch with our membership secretary Donald Lyven (email: donaldelyven@aol.com, mobile: 07727 74 82 09, address 32 Glenhill Close, Finchley N3 2JS).

For all other enquiries please contact Phil Fletcher (email: philfletcherx@yahoo.es, mobile: 07962 98 31 31, address 92 Galley Lane Arkley, Barnet EN5 4AL).

Our group is taking part in the current Energy Bill Campaign and also the Recycling Campaign, which aims to halve the amount of black bin waste by 2020.

Individual members also work with other local environmental groups to promote cycling.

Two of our members are also active members of the High Barnet Green Home Zone, a CIC which is dedicated to reducing carbon emissions in the home. If you are interested, the web site is http://www.greenhomezone.org/ .

Barnet and Enfield Friends of the Earth are also members of the Coation for a sustainable Brent Cross. This is a broad coalition which is combatting the Brent Cross Project in its present form.

If anyone is interested in the Coalition for a Sustainable Brent Cross the web site is

Barnet and Enfield FOE are also supporting as a group the Pinkham Way Alliance, who are opposing the proposed waste treatment plant on Pinkham Way, the section of the North Circular between Friern Barnet and Muswell Hill, and who are also looking for alternatives to the Pinkham Way Site.

Individual members are also actively involved in the Pinkham Way Alliance, a pressure group against the proposed waste treatment plant at Pinkham Way.

For further information on this here are three web sites:

the Pinkham Way Alliance is currently desperately looking for anyone who is fluent in German Spanish or Italian, as we are investigating best waste practices across Eutope as input for the North London Waste Plan. and other documen ts. This involves translation work and making phone calls.

The deadline for input into the North London Waste Plan is the 8th of July. So if you are prepared to help us then please ring Phil on 07962 98 31 31 or email him on philfletchers@yahoo.es.

Although our group is currently not participating in the food Chain Campaign, we did produce some own campaign material which any other group is free to use. Please also see the photos of this material. The link to this material is http://www.foe.co.uk/news/creative_resources_25502.html
