Film showing in Bolton

On Saturday 5th September we were warmly welcomed by the Quakers at Bolton Friends Meeting House to talk about our Food Chain campaign.
After sharing a lovely tea, we started off by showing a short film introducing the campaign, followed by The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, a film about how the people of Cuba reacted to apparent disaster by developing a more diverse and low energy society. In response to their economic crisis in the 1990s, Cubans learned to devote unused land within the city to growing food. The film stated that 70% of the food consumed in Havana is grown within the city region.
After the film, we broke into groups for a discussion about the film and what we had learned from it. We also heard about the Incredible Edible Todmorden project, which aims to plant herbs, vegetables and fruit trees on every street corner and in every back yard.
