About us

When and where?

We meet about once a month, often on a Thursday evening, sometimes at a local pub, sometimes in the Chinnor Village Centre and sometimes at our co-ordinator's house in Chinnor.

Information about forthcoming meetings is circulated to our members and other interested people by email or by post. Contact us to find out more.

Meetings are friendly and informal and we discuss forthcoming events, campaigns and other issues that members would like to bring up.

Every year, in addition to whatever campaigns we are running, we organise two Green Fayres.

The summer Green Fayre is in June in Chinnor and includes a very popular Bike Exchange, where people bring along second hand bikes for sale. We generally "recycle" over 30 bikes at this event.

The Christmas Green Fayre takes place in Thame Town Hall in November. People can buy locally produced craft gifts and cards for a greener Christmas. It also features a Toy Exchange to which children bring their outgrown toys for sale, and receive three quarters of the selling price. This results in a massive turnover of toys which might otherwise end up on the dump.

At both these events we run a cafe with home-made organic cakes and refreshments, and offer free activities for children. In addition, of course, we drum up support for our campaigns and get many signatures on petitions and postcards. The Green Fayres are the main sources of funds for our group and make enough money for us to frequently donate to other local green good causes.

We also run regular swap shops, where people can bring unwanted items for others to take away for free. No money changes hands (except for the refreshments), which takes a bit of getting used to! These swap shops divert many perfectly good items from the dump.

See the events section for information about the next Swap Shop, Green Fayre and other events.
