Friends of the Earth > Local Groups > Croydon
A candlelight vigil was held on Saturday 12th December outside East Croydon Station to highlight the need for a strong climate change treaty to be agreed in Copenhagen.
Members of Croydon Friends of the Earth were joined by other local environmentalists, including members of Croydon Greenpeace, as well as by Croydon MP Andrew Pelling and Councillors Gavin Barwell and Richard
Chatterjee.
The
vigil was part of the World
Wants a Real Deal
global day of action on climate change organised by the TckTckTck
campaign, and was one of over a thousand vigils taking place in
over a hundred countries across the world on the same day. Its aim was to
call attention for the need for rich countries to agree to strong
cuts in their greenhouse gas emissions and to help poor countries
develop cleanly and adapt to that climate change which cannot now be
prevented.
