The Age of Stupid is here

"Why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance?" This is the question asked by Pete Postlethwaite asks in this year's most talked about eco-film The Age of Stupid.

Set in the year 2055 when the world has been devastated by climate change, Postlethwaite - the only man left living on Earth - looks back at documentary footage from the year 2008 and ponders the events which led to this terrible, globally-warmed fate.

Director Franny Armstrong makes no bones about who and what she believes is to blame for the current state of the planet. The usual suspects - consumerism, air travel, collaboration between governments and oil giants and slow advances in renewable energy - are all named and shamed to varying degrees.

However Armstrong, who previously directed McLibel and is a driving force behind the new 10:10 campaign, believes that change needs to come from people, rather than waiting for governments to take action. It is this ethic which is the driving force behind her film.

Now you have a chance to see The Age of Stupid - or see it again - thanks to Transition Stourbridge, who have organised a showing of the film at The Glasshouse Arts Centre on Wollaston Road, Stourbridge on Friday October 16 at 7.30pm. The event is free, although donations would be most welcome. For more info visit Transition Stourbridge or call The Glasshouse Arts Centre on 01384 399458.
