Latest news

The East Dorset Friends of the Earth's Annual General Meeting took place on Thursday, 7th March. The following members were unanimously elected to the roles of Co-ordinator; Treasurer & Membership Officer:

Co-ordinator - Angela Pooley; Treasurer - Christine Hannie; Membership Officer - Martin Price.

Group Financial Position & Fundraising:
A new account with the Co-op Bank was set up last October and the current balance is £203.45, this is considerably less than at the start of the year due mainly to the cost of holding the Windfarm Conference held in November. Whilst there is no immediate problem as the only regular outgoing is the hire of the meeting room at £30 per month the Group does need to do some serious fundraising in the year ahead so any ideas would be welcome. Following the success of last year's music event we hope to hold another one in the next few months.
Please let me know if you would like detailed information about the Group's expenditure.

Other Key Issues discussed:

Marine Conservation Zones:
A comprehensive response to current consultation on Marine Conservation Zones has been written on behalf of the Group by John Gunn and will be submitted shortly.

Motions to FoE Conference 2013
It was agreed to submit the following Motion to Conference:

This conference calls upon Friends of the Earth to consider a campaign in support of the proposed north-south Canal Spine outlined in the Paper 'Sustainable Britain; A case for a large canal with electrical power down the spine of Britain'. Such a scheme would provide energy, water supply and transport benefits which are fully in-line with the aims of FOE's Campaign Strategy, and Route Map to a more socially and environmentally sustainable future."

The Bee Campaign
We have received new materials for the Bee Campaign, these will be used throughout the year at various events. We managed to get about 50 postcards signed at the Community Fair at Castlepoint during Climate Week.

Navitus Bay Windfarm

The closing date for the Navitus Bay Windfarm consultation is fast approaching - 5th April, so if you haven't already done so the FoE on-line action is a quick and easy way to express your support, got to:
