The next 'Sustainable Solutions for a Fair Future' talk will be next Thursday, 25th August. The topic is 'Cities in the Ecological Age', with Mark Watts, a director in Arup's Energy Consulting team. Mark will be looking at how some of the world's leading cities are reconsidering their development paths in the context of climate change and resource depletion. He will focus on a broad spread of the world's capital cities, the ones he works with most frequently, but with a special focus on recent developments in Beijing and Copenhagen.

Before joining Arup Mark led the development of London's Climate Change Action Plan and the associated programme of projects to reduce London's carbon emissions by 60% by 2025. He was also responsible for leading London's draft climate change adaptation strategy and, on behalf of the Mayor, for establishing the C40 Large Cities Climate Group. He has worked in cities all over the world on energy, waste, water and masterplannning. He was also commissioned to provide a city best practice guide for Friends of the Earth's Get Serious about C02 campaign. This is sure to be an excellent talk!
