18.04.12: Join us for Greener Hackney on Sat 12 May

Join Hackney and Tower Hamlets FOE members at the next Greener Hackney event to discuss how to make Hackney greener!

The next Greener Hackney event will be held on Saturday 12th May from 10:30am at the Attic at the Hackney Picturehouse on Mare Street. The event aims to bring together people who live or work in Hackney and who want to help make it a greener place. The event will give people the opportunity to:

• hear what the council is up to, including what progress we have made on the suggestions of residents at the last meeting (held in October 2011)
• find out about some of the many local groups who are running projects in the borough, and how to get involved in them
• share with the council and others suggestions for how we could work better in partnership, and areas which need more focus or attention

The format of the event will be informal, with a mixture of short presentations, group discussions and free networking time.

We are expecting the following speakers:

- Cllr Sophie Linden, Cabinet Member for Crime, Sustainability and Customer Service

- James Palmer, Head of Programmes and Projects, LB Hackney

- Anna O'Brien and Feimatta Conteh from Dalston Energy Angels (http://www.arcolaenergy.com/contribute/dalston-energy-angels/ )

- Jo Homan from Transition Finsbury Park, representing the partnership group who have received £10,000 to develop a bid for Big Lottery Funding to make the Manor House area for resilient (http://transitionculture.org/2012/03/12/transition-initiatives-building-partnerships-through-big-lottery/ )

- A representative from Green Light North London, a partnership project to support businesses to reduce their environmental impacts (http://www.glnl.org.uk/ )

A number of local organisations, including ourselves and council services will have stalls to showcase their work and demonstrate ways in which people can get involved in their local area.

All residents and local business people in Hackney are very welcome to attend. It should be a particularly good opportunity for people who are interested in volunteering or getting involved in local projects to meet like minded people and find out about the many different green initiatives going on across the borough.

The council are also keen to hear from people who have ideas about how the council could better work in partnership with local groups to make Hackney a greener place.
