Hackney Green Hustings was held on Tuesday 27th April, 7pm - 8pm, at Millfields Community School. Around 120 people turned up to hear the parliamentary candidates for Hackney North and Stoke Newington debate green issues, in a hustings chaired by Martyn Williams, Senior Parliamentary Campaigner at Friends of the Earth. On the panel were:
The panellists answered questions on: their personal carbon footprint; tackling the environmental, as well as the financial deficits; green housing and fuel poverty; businesses' carbon footprints; a target of 40% carbon emissions cuts by 2020; Royal Bank of Scotland's investments in tar sands; nuclear energy; and the proposed wind turbine for Hackney's East Marshes.
The hustings was hosted by Hackney Environment Network and Hackney and Tower Hamlets Friends of the Earth.
