Clean British Energy

The Clean British Energy campaign aims to help transform the way Britain produces and uses energy. Clean British energy is our best hope for a clean, secure and affordable fuel energy future.

  • New onshore wind power is cheaper than nuclear power
  • Our solar industry is a great British success story, now employing 29,000 people
  • Developing offshore wind could create 66,000 UK jobs by 2020
  • And we're already a world leader in wave and tidal power - technology and expertise we could export

Hackney and Tower Hamlets FOE is asking local residents to switch to green energy, and encouraging people to email Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, to ask him to switch our UK power supply to renewable energy; you could even earn yourself a nomination for a 'CBE'!

In 2011, Clean British Energy was preceded by the Final Demand campaign. This focused on the fact that the Big Six energy companies are keeping us hooked on dirty, expensive fossil fuels and because our homes guzzle power and leak heat. Just six big energy companies supply 99% of our homes, and they've got the Government wrapped around their little fingers. They want to maintain their massive profits and keep new firms out of the market.

Politicians and regulator Ofgem have questioned the power and dominance of the energy companies - but nothing's changed.

So Friends of the Earth's Final Demand campaign called for:

  • a public inquiry into the power of the Big Six energy companies
  • urgent action to stop the Government killing off our clean British energy providers
