NYCC draft climate change strategy meeting 6November 2009

Meeting at at 7.00pm, at Marie's house, Lynton Gardens , to go through the important sections of North Yorkshire County Council's draft Climate Change Strategy line by line and suggest changes required in line with FOE's Get Serious About CO2 campaign.

This repeats what we did a few weeks ago with regard to Harrogate's draft strategy, and our resulting submission to Harrogate Council has just resulted in Harrogate becoming the first local authority in the country to adopt FOE's target of 40% CO2 cuts by 2020. This is a phenomenal achievement which has given us national recognition at FOE, and should encourage other local authorities to adopt the very ambitious, but scientifically essential, 40% target. (The Lib Dems, as you probably know, have called on all Lib Dem councils to adopt the 40% target.)

We want to have 8 people at Marie's on Tuesday, as we did last time. Last night, 5 of us put our names forward - Marie, Neil, Clare (new member), Ben and myself. In addition, Carla (FOE staff) said that although she was not available she would ask Simon from FOE Leeds office if he could attend. Ben is asking Angela (his mum!) and I am asking Ingrid (like me, from Pannal) if they want to come and contribute again, as they did, very usefully, last time. So that could be our 8, or we may have room for one or two others (or squeeze in a ninth). If you would like to come on Tuesday and you are not on that list please let me know.

We have to get our response in by 9 October 2009.
