So, what have we been up to this year?
- Met Kate Hoey (MP for Vauxhall) to support her decision to vote in favour of the Livestock Bill and to ask her to push other local MPs to do the same.
- Sold dozens of fair-trade, organic and vegan cakes, as well as buckets of delicious homemade lemonade at the Urban Green Fair in Brockwell Park to support Friends of the Earth's national urgent funding appeal
- Gathered local support for the Livestock Bill at the Autumn Community Fair in West Dulwich.
- Raised more funds by paddling the length of the River Effra from Belair Park to the Thames, complete with historical running commentary and riverside lunch
- Regular attendance of local forums such as Lambeth First and Lambeth Sustainability Partnership
- Screened Food Inc at the Brixton Ritzy to raise awareness of the issues surrounding intensive meat and dairy farming, particularly problems with soy.
- Dressed up as cows at every possible opportunity. On the tube, in Windrush Square, in grazing formation at Brockwell Park... absolutely moovellous
- Collected too many signatures to count at the Lambeth Country Fair, putting pressure on local MPs to support the up-coming Livestock Bill.
- Lobbied on local and national issues: developments at Streatham Common (Tesco and the ice rink); Food Chain national campaign; food sourcing in hospital; Shop Local (campaign to support local businesses); marine biodiversity; Lambeth Sustainability Action Plan.
- Enthused students in Clapham at Lambeth College Green Day
- Got mistaken for actual cows. No, really!
What are we planning for 2011?
- Make a short film for youtube (and maybe TV) to highlight the energy wasted by billboards (particularly late at night, when there's nobody there to see them!).
- Campaigning to ban agrofuels in public developments in Lambeth.
- Making a mooove on the issues that are important to you.... just come and tell us about them!
If you like the sound of what we've been up to - or you think we should move in a new direction - the please come along to one of our meetings. We're a pretty friendly bunch! Our next meeting (the last of 2010, sniff) will be on Monday 13th December at 7.30pm in the Royal Festival Hall. After that we'll be meeting again on the second Monday of every month in 2011, starting 10th January. See you there!
