Police and Crime Commissioner candidates comment on 20's Plenty - 31st October 2012

We asked Leicestershire's candidates for the Police and Crime Commissioner election whether they supported 20 mph speed limits on residential roads and so far we've had two responses:

Suleman Nagdi, the independent candidate, said:

"Safer streets are a great concern for me both as a father and grandfather. I will do my utmost to consult with residents and organisations on issues surrounding street safety."

Sarah Russell, the Labour candidate, said:

"I have long been a supporter of 20 mile and hour zones.

I believe the best enforcement is having them across a broad area, it becoming a normal part of peoples driving habits (a bit like the change that occurred with attitudes towards driving whilst under the influence of alcohol) and an increased usage by pedestrians and cyclists. This then frees the Police to target areas that are a stubborn problem. I see compliance being encouraged through the use of multiple tools depending on the area and the issue ranging from driver safety training to community speed assessments."

Sir Clive Loader, the Conservative candidate, has not yet responded.
