Fix the Food Chain

The meat and dairy industry produces more climate-changing emissions than all the planes, cars and lorries on the planet.. It's all down to a hidden chain that links animals in British factory farms to rainforest destruction in South America.

A far cry from the traditional image of green pasture grazing, intensively reared animals are pumped full of protein to make them grow ultra quick. The protein in animal feed is provided by soy, shipped in from South America where big businesses are destroyin rainforests to make ay for massive plantations.

Ripping up forests releases carbon dioxide and pulls the plug on the Earth's free life support systems which provide us with clean water, healthy soil and air that we can breathe - and drives out the communities who've lived on the land for centuries.

So where do you fit in to this complicated chain? At the moment it's not easy to find products made from animals fed a home grown diet. We need MPs to change the deal behind our meals. The government can fix the food chain by helping farmers produce planet-friendly meat and dairy for families in Britain.

The Government must:

  • Use subsidies to support planet-friendly farming, not intensive meat and dairy production
  • Help famers to develop alternatives: home grown animal feeds and diverse animal breeds that don't need soy
  • Change the meat and dairy served in schools and hospitals

Make it happen:

  • Ask your MP to fix the food chain
  • Ask the supermarkets to source planet-friendly meat and dairy
  • Look for alternatives: some small farmers use more home-grown feeds-ask at your local shops or farmers' market
