Public Debate on Energy Bill - 27th May @ Newcastle University

Newcastle Friends of the Earth is hosting a public debate "Your Energy, Your Bill" on the draft Energy Bill which is currently before Parliament. It will be held at Newcastle University's Fine Arts Lecture Theatre at 7.30pm on Friday 27th May.

The debate will be chaired by Professor Dermot Roddy of Newcastle University and speakers includes Chi Onwurah MP, Councillor Wendy Taylor, Ron Campbell of National Energy Action and Simon Bowens from Friends of the Earth.

We'll be discussing the Green Deal, which is the proposed solution to the problems of fuel poverty and carbon emissions from people's homes. And whether it's fair. The Green Deal is supposed to reach the areas other energy efficiency schemes failed to reach, such as tenants in private rented homes, homeowners who'd like to do something but are afraid they won't get payback before they sell, and people who'd desperately like to reduce their bills but have no money. You'll get the chance to decide whether it will work for you, and tell some influential people how it should be different - it's not the law yet.
