About this group

Our group was set up in early 2005, since then we have been raising awareness about both local and global environmental issues and campaigning to make newport a cleaner, greener, more sustainable city. We are always looking for more people to get involved in any way they can, whether its coming along to meeting, helping out with events, or signing a petition, it all helps.

We are very active in the Newport area taking part in and running many events, such as the Maindee festival, and the green film club. We have campaigned against plans for the M4 relief road, vogen biofuel plant, and waste incinerator. We are also currently involved in setting up and developing GREEN Newport a forum for all things green and in Newport, and we are looking into the establisment of an environment centre in Newport.

What can I do?

There are many ways people can help and get involved. You can help by:

• Joining in with letter/email writing campaigns
• Taking part in demonstrations
• Staffing a group information stall at a fair or fete in the summer
• Monitoring the local press for environmental stories of interest to the group
• Running a website for the group
• Organising fundraising events
• Simply joining in with like minded people and having some fun!
