Stop housing plans for Weddington Fields

We have been working closely with the residents group ( SWORD) to oppose the building of houses on the fields next to St James' church Weddington. This area is on the north-east edge of Nuneaton and is crossed by a bridle path leading to Caldecote and connecting with Weddington Country walk. It is probably the loveliest part of Nuneaton. The area does suffer from some flooding and is not served by much public transport. The development would not be sustainable, would cause the loss of wonderful countryside and would generate additional traffic into the already congested Old Hinckley Road gyratory, which already suffers from poor air quality.

The plans were rejected by the council in the summer and the decision is going to appeal in January 2012. In the meantime, the council has withdrawn their objection ( on the grounds of housing need in the Borough) but the appeal is still going ahead and will be oppoed by SWORD and NuneatonFoE
