Anti Fracking Groups lobby Labour Conference

Southport FOE joined Manchester FOE and reps from Ribble Estuary Against Fracking (REAF) and Residents Action On Fylde Fracking (RAFF), to lobby the Labour Party Conference in Manchester on Sunday 30th September. Around 25 supporters leafletted delegates as they arrived at the Conference calling on the party to support a halt on any further Fracking, until and unless it can be shown to be safe.

"Fracking" is hydraulic fracturing of rocks deep underground to release trapped shale gas for energy generation. The pratice has been linked to serious water polution in the USA, and last year caused 2 minor earthquakes near blackpool the first time it was used in the UK.
