Over 30,000 people nationally signed our Final Demand Campaign petition calling for more investment in renewable energy and a public inquiry into the power of the Big Six energy companies. Local group member Stanley Knill was part of the group that handed the petitions in to 10 Downing Street. (He's on the right in the photo, right.)
Friends of the Earth has now launched its Clean British Energy campaign. The Government is conducting Energy Market Reform over the next year - during this time we want to publicise the need for renewable energy AND the public's support for it. (A recent survey revealed that 85% of us want the Big Six energy companies to develop clean British power from our wind, sun and water.)
We're signed up to the campaign and will shortly be promoting it at local events. People will be able to find out more, and sign postcards to local MPs David Lammy and Lynne Featherstone asking for their support for the campaign.
You can do your bit for the start of the campaign by telling Energy Secretary Ed Davey to switch our UK power supply to renewable energy.
And more and more people are getting the message that we must ditch dirty fossil fuels now and invest bigtime in renewables. Just watch Deborah Meaden of Dragon's Den fame talking on BBC morning News in support of our CBE campaign. It's no longer just a question of the environment - it's now economic sense to break away from the spiralling cost of fossil fuels.
