This was our big success in 2009 - we got the council to agree a target of cutting CO2 emissions from the borough (not just from the council's own buildings and transport) by 40% by 2020. Haringey has adopted plans to cut emissions from its own buildings and activities by 40% by 2015 - and save a lot of money in the process - and is developing plans for cutting emissions from the whole borough.
This is expected to include a roll-out of re-fitting housing with insulation and renewable energy, and district heating networks.
We are now asking Haringey to support our call for a national framework that would ensure all local authorities act with this level of ambition. We have already asked Lynne Featherstone MP to back this - she wrote a very strong letter to Climate Secretary of State Chris Huhne in support.
