Spurs are proposing a big new stadium on their present site. We commissioned research from the Carbon Descent consultants which shows that the proposed new stadium could accommodate Britain's biggest array of photovoltaic panels, generating enough electricity to save 355 tonnes of CO2 every year. Over a hundred people signed letters supporting our call.
Spurs responded to our campaign by upping its energy efficiency targets from 22% above legal minimum, to 40%. This is a big saving, more than the 355 tonnes PV alone would deliver. Their latest plans include provision for more renewable energy to be incorporated later. The introduction of Clean Energy Cashback for renewable energy would make this economic.
Hale Village and GLS Site:The Hale Village proposal for the GLS site at Tottenham Hale, with 1210 flats, 700 student rooms, 800 parking spaces, a hotel, school, shops and health centre got outline planning permission in May 2007. The site has now been demolished, the student block is finished and the first affordable housing blocks are being built. The Combined Heat and Power plant is already operating.
The developers are now asking to increase the height of the private "pavilions" facing the river. We will object to this.
Other Planning Issues:We have commented on major plans for Wards Corner and Lawrence Road, both in the Seven Sisters area, calling for carbon-neutral developments with lower amounts of parking.
Plans for Haringey Heartlands have been delayed by the recession but could also come in soon - we will be on the case from a sustainability perspective.
