"We want a climate treat treaty - not the trick of offsetting" was our slogan on Friday 30 October when we did a Halloween lobby - dressing up in spooky gear and handing David Lammy MP a pumpkin to make the point. David agreed to write to the Prime Minister on three points:
a) the need for developed countries to commit to deep domestic emission cuts, not "exporting" their cuts by dubious "offsetting" in developing countries.
b) the need for big new funding from rich to poor countries to help them develop in a low-carbon way and to help adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change
c) the need for a good forest treaty that protects forests and their inhabitants - and does not make forests a new market for offsetting.
We are now lobbying David post-Copenhagen, asking him to write to Ed Milliband, to urge that Britain signs up to a target of 42% CO2 reduction by 2020.
