Copenhagen

About 15 of us went on the 50,000-strong Copenhagen demo in London on 5 December - . Two of us also went to Copenhagen itself for the 5,000-strong Friends of the Earth International demo targetting offsetting of carbon emissions and the main civil society demo with 100,000 people on 12 December.

All the magnificent campaigning was sadly not enough to secure a binding treaty. Some progress was made, but it remains up to countries to put their own targets forward by the end of January. This leaves plenty of room for campaigning to get Britain and the EU to commit to stronger targets, and for taking action locally to make emissions cuts happen. This will no doubt be a major theme of 2010!
