Haringey develops serious plans to cut CO2

At its Going Green conference on 20 February, Haringey Council reported on progress and plans on climate change and other environmental issues. At the centre of this, it is working on plans to cut CO2 emissions from the whole borough, following our successful campaign in 2009 to get them to adopt a target of cutting emissions by 40% by 2020.

The Council is developing plans to cut CO2 from its own buildings and transport by 40% by 2015, thereby also meeting its 10:10 commitment. This will include fitting more efficient boilers, better insulation in schools, some renewable energy, reducing car-use by staff and awareness raising to cut electricity and heating use.

The Council is also working with the Energy Saving Trust to develop a detailed plan to get to 40% by 2020 for the whole borough. This will include Combined Heat-and-Power with local heat grids; mass housing insulation programmes; and installing renewable energy on existing buildings.

We will keep up with the Council's plans and report highlights here.
