A range of community groups came together under the banner of "Stop Climate chaos" last week to lobby MPs across the country, and demand that the government lives up to its promise to be the "Greenest Government Ever".
In Tottenham, local members of Friends of the Earth, St John Vianney Church, Sustainable Haringey, Women's Platform UK (Turkish Women's Group), CAFOD, Back 2 Earth, UK Youth Council on Climate Change, Haringey Tree Trust, and Haringey Cycling Campaign - a total of 23 people - met David Lammy MP on Friday 12 November.
"We told David about all the things our community groups are doing locally to cut carbon emissions - from growing food locally and insulating buildings, to encouraging walking and cycling, planting trees and educating our members" said Quentin Given who organised the lobby, "and we urged him to write to David Cameron setting our what the government needs to do.
To remind him, we gave him a large cake with the words 'Climate Justice' in icing, and a bottle of tequila to symbolise the next round of UN climate talks in Mexico".
The Stop Climate Chaos is calling on the government to use its forthcoming Energy Bill to set us really on the road to a low-carbon future; to up our offer on finance and cutting carbon at the UK climate talks in Cancún, Mexico, in December.
The lobby got good coverage in the Journal with a photo of David with the cake and tequila on 2 December.
