Planning committee agrees higher blocks overlooking marshes - but we might have won a small victory

Along with other local organisations we had objected to plans to increase the height of 2 private housing blocks on Hale Village from 8 to 10 storeys, because they will overlook the river and marshes and will affect the open feel of the area. Quentin spoke for FOE at the planning committee on 26 October along with local councillors and organisations. It was a fascinating - if long - discussion.

The committee voted 5:2 to agree the increase, but left no doubt they were unhappy with the way it had been done. Chair Councillor Stuart Macnamara said he would ask for the Tottenham Hale Masterplan SPD to be strengthened to stop "development creep" on adjacent sites, and for the consultation proces to be reviewed.

If this happens it may address our gravest concerns - that future development on Hale Wharf (a more sensitive site) would reach similar heights.
