Final Demand campaign

It's time to make our Final Demand. Britain's energy system is broken. Just six big companies control 99% of the household energy we use, and own more than two thirds of our power stations, keeping us hooked on ever-more expensive and imported... More >

About us

When and where?

We meet on the third Thursday of every month between 7.30-9.30pm. Please note that this year unlike previous years we are meeting in August, on 18th. In the future we hope to alternate between pubs in Wanstead and Woodford making it easier for people in both areas to attend. Whilst we're searching for a suitable Woodford venue (suggestions please) all our group meetings will be in Wanstead.

How to find us: You can use the links below to see more about where we meet, including street maps.

Meetings: The Nightingale, 51 Nightingale Lane, Wanstead, London, E11 2EY.

About this group

The origins of the group go back to April 2007 and a small group of local individuals who formed the Wanstead Climate Action Group. The group attended local festivals, campaigned on the streets of Wanstead and talked to local residents about issues surrounding climate change.

In conjunction with Waltham Forest Friends of the Earth the group held a public meeting in October 2007 with two local MPs. Both Harry Cohen MP (Leyton and Wanstead) and Neil Gerrard MP (Walthamstow) spoke in support of The Big Ask campaign.

The same month Wanstead & Woodford Friends of the Earth was officially formed. We hope to link together individuals concerned about climate change and other environmental issues into an informal network. If you are interested in finding out more about what's happening in the Wanstead/Woodford area or how that network might work, then please get in touch.

The group has campaigned on a number of local issues including airport expansion and tree management. We have also hosted a green pub quiz in support of Friends of the Earth's national Big Ask campaign which calls for a strong climate change law to tackle carbon dioxide emissions. Over the summer of 2008 we have collected postcards from constituents in support of the Biofuels campaign and we are currently working with Fairtrade Redbridge to help make the borough achieve Fairtrade status.

We stay in touch with each other using an email group and you can also find us on Facebook.
