Friends of the Earth > Local Groups > York & Ryedale
Friends of the Earth were delighted to hear that York City Council has shown its support for our Get Serious about CO2 campaign, by voting to sign up to the campaign and to work to develop an action plan showing how York can reduce its CO2 emissions by 40% by 2020, at their last council meeting in December.
A massive step forward
This is a massive step forward in our Get Serious campaign, aiming to transform the action being taken to tackle Climate Change in York and to develop a positive low-carbon vision for our area. So thank you to everyone who has signed cards, made props, helped on stalls, had 'Being Serious' photos taken and talked to their local councillors.
Still more to do!
There is still more to do though! This year a Climate Change Plan for York is being developed by Without Walls, a collection of different organisations, including the council, working to develop the long-term vision for York. We need to make sure that the Climate Change Plan includes the Get Serious campaign target of a 40% reduction in CO2 by 2020, which the Council has supported, and that the action plan really can achieve those targets.
And...we need to make sure that everyone in York is engaged with what our positive low-carbon future can be.
Get involved
If you're interested in making this happen, whatever time or skills you have, get in touch or come along to the next Get Serious campaign meeting - 1st February, 7.30pm, The Golden Fleece.
