See things differently

You'll never look at dinner the same way!

York Friends of the Earth will supporting a new film, FOOD, INC, next Tuesday that gives an revelatory insight into the powerful interests that lie at the heart of US agriculture and the effect on our food.

FOOD, INC. shows us the world that big business would rather we didn't see. Shot through with black humour and smart visual effects, the film is as entertaining as it is informative, following the journey of our food from seed to supermarket. This is a process defined by industrial systemisation, economic exploitation and political collusion. The new mantra is 'fatter, bigger, cheaper', as a cabal of major corporations present the illusion of choice while squeezing the life out of the competition, the countryside and, ultimately, the planet.

The film is being shown at York City Screen on 23rd February at 18:15. We will be holding a stall with information about our 'Fix the Food Chain' campaign and Guy Wallbanks, Co-ordinator of the Friends of the Earth group will be talking before the film.

The film links in closely with one our Fix the Food Chain campaigns, which is aiming to:

  • shift subsidies away from factory farming - supporting small, sustainable planet-friendly farms instead
  • support farmers to grow their own animal feed
  • make sure supermarkets offer fairer deals for everyone
