Green summer holiday5 May 2010
Summer is here and schools are out. Have a look at our top tips for a green summer break:
-
If your family has a garden, why not ask for your own patch. Grow your own vegetables and enjoy fresh and cheap food straight from the garden. -
Use your bike! And if you don't have one, why not buy second-hand? Cycling is good for you and it's fun! -
It's summer fete time - so clear out your cupboards of unwanted stuff. Donate to the nearest tombola at your local school or church fete. -
Have a picnic in the open. If you need to wrap the food use reuseable cartons, or greaseproof paper which you can compost afterwards. -
If you're having a BBQ ask your parents to buy locally produced BBQ charcoal from well looked after forests. This stops rainforest being cut down just to fuel your BBQ. -
If your family is planning a holiday why not suggest to keep it local? Hire a cottage or go camping. There are lots of fantastic places to visit in the UK.
