School run… walk or cycle?

There's too much traffic on our roads. Traffic causes pollution and congestion, and vehicle emissions contribute to climate change.

Traffic levels on Britain’s roads have increased significantly over the past 25 years, and nearly twice as many children are arriving at school by car compared with 10 years ago.

Friends of the Earth believe the Government should be spending less on road-building and more on car alternatives. Developing public transport and creating safer streets for walking and cycling are just a few ways in which traffic levels could be reduced.
