Climate

Our climate is changing. And it's having some devastating effects:

  • flooding
  • forest fires
  • hurricanes
  • storms.

It's the most vulnerable people who are worst affected. And climate change is a huge threat to the world's plants and animals.

Already 2 million homes are at risk from flooding in England and Wales.

What causes temperatures to rise?

Greenhouse gases are released by burning fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas. They form a blanket around the earth that traps in heat. The build up of greenhouse gases is causing temperatures to rise.

We need to act now

The world's governments are acting too slowly. Countries need to work together to tackle climate change by:

Renewable energy sources are very clean, and are all around us:

  • solar
  • wind
  • hydroelectric
  • biomass.

Did you know?
A wind farm planned for south of Glasgow should provide enough power for all the homes in the city.



Want to get active?

Take part in our Shout about activity week for 11-13 year-olds.

Use less energy at home and at school:

energy efficient lighting

  • switch off lights
  • don't leave TV/computers on stand by
  • walk or cycle as much as you can.
