Transport5 May 2010
Our traffic is in a jam
There is too much traffic on our roads which causes congestion and climate change. We need to stop building roads and start to change our travelling habits by:
- using different kinds of transport - bicycles, buses, trains and walking
- travelling less often - using local facilities, working from home.
- driving more efficient cars.
Air travel
It's not just cars that cause the problems. Air travel is another culprit:
- fastest growing cause of climate change in the UK
- air pollution
- noise pollution
- road congestion
- damage to countryside.
And airlines don't pay tax on fuel.
Did you know?
Six of the top 10 flight destinations from London can already or could potentially be reached by high-speed rail rather than air.
Want to get active?
Say no to car journeys:
- use public transport
- walk
- cycle.
Take part in the National walk to School week in May.
