About a boy
The media tell us that today's youth is just about hoodies, bling and ASBOs. Forget the stereotype - young people in the UK are increasingly eco-conscious.
Take 15-year old Jack Allwright from The Mountfichet Mathematics and Computing College in Essex. He supports Watford FC and is into music.
But he's also interested in reducing his environmental impact at home:
We only have our heating on when we're at home, we recycle all of our waste and all of our lightbulbs are energy efficient.
Forward thinking
Jack has a firm grasp on the causes of global warming:
I am worried that people take for granted what they have now and don't think at all about the future. We should stop producing harmful gases that cause climate change.

Why did Jack get involved in Shout about, Friends of the Earth's annual activity week for young people?
...to show the Government and world leaders that we are trying to do something about the future, to make it better for our kids... and we want them to help us out.
Action facts
Taking part in Shout about is a great way to show your concern for the environment.
And there are plenty of other ways of getting involved in green issues too, for example:
- campaign for walking and cycling to your school
- volunteer for an environmental organisation.
