Sparkling deal: dealing in electric cars7 September 2010
Jobby Jacob fixes and services G-Wiz electric cars.
As the workshop controller for UK distributor Going Green, he's in charge of a team that looks after around 1,000 cars. But don't expect spanners and a grease gun.
What training do you need?
Working with electric cars, you need a basis in electronics and computers.
As for the mechanics - there's hardly anything there. The only oil you use is a bit of brake fluid or transmission fluid.
How did you first get involved with G-Wiz cars?
I began as a dealer in the city of Pune, India (the G-Wiz is made in India), and then gradually got to know what was under the bonnet.
For the past year, I've been working in London
So do you drive a G-Wiz, with the added perks of free parking and zero tax and congestion charge?
I live nearby so I don't need a car, but I used to drive [a G-Wiz] in India.
