Sophie Powell was a runner up in our Green Stories competition.

In her own words:

I received a hefty bill from my electricity company for almost £300 based on an estimate of what we'd been using.

I dutifully phoned them with a proper meter reading hoping for an overestimate.

Holding my breath for a second I asked the fella on the other end how much we owed them.

I could hear a sharp intake of breath and he asked me to repeat the meter reading.

I repeated the numbers. He coughed and said

Actually Miss, we owe you money.

So that's proof that switching things off at the wall and not leaving lights on etc can wipe £300 off your electricity bill in an instant and help save the planet at the same time. Quids in.
